My Story

After years of dieting and struggling against my body's own natural signals, I gave up. I gave up dieting and counting and feeling guilty and all that goes along with that awful four letter word -- DIET. I told myself that I'd rather gain 10 pounds and be happy and fulfilled than continue eating the "perfect" diet. And guess what happened? Not only did I find my calling, fall in love, start living my values and not gain 10 pounds, I settled into a wonderfully healthy weight for me. So I created Eat When You're Hungry in order to spare as many people as possible from spending one more moment restricting their food, feeling encaged by their diets and feeling totally un-free to actually eat what they want, when they want it, when they're hungry.

I wrote Eat When You're Hungry to help people free themselves from all of the time they're used to spending dieting, so they can actually discover their real life's purpose. Eat When You're Hungry -- the book -- is the story of how I stopped dieting, how I started living and how I made peace with food and with myself. And how you can, too! This website is meant to continue the story I started in my book.

I'm sharing my story (and opening my kitchen cabinets for you to peek inside) because I think the best way to teach is by example, and if my story can help you, I'm willing to share it. People often ask me how I -- a woman living in possibly the most diet obsessed city in our nation (Los Angeles) -- have a healthy relationship with food, how I can eat ice cream and chocolate and whatever else I want, and not gain weight. And having answered these questions regularly for years, after having worked very hard to free myself from the diet mentality that pervades just about every facet of our lives, I feel that it's my duty to share my story so that you, too, can be free from dieting once and for all. I have no gimmicks and no catches.

  • If I can help one teenager give up dieting for life...
  • If I can help one executive stop thinking about foods in terms of calories...
  • If I can help one person in this wonderful world we live in finally love her body...
  • If I can prevent one diet from turning into an eating disorder...

I have done what I was put on this earth to do.
